There are many ways to spell puer tea (puerh, pu-erh, pu-er.) The official spelling of the city in Yunnan, China for which the tea is named, is called Puer City. At Pure Puer Tea we decided to go with the official spelling, the simplest spelling, and the spelling which we felt most likely would result in people pronouncing it correctly. It is pronounced poo-er (the er pronounced as in the er in the word ergonomic.) not poo air. Now to complicate matters, there is a new kind of tea. It is called purr tea.

Our customer Meredith Poggi-Jenkins told us about her cat Fuzzy who seems to be quite a puer tea aficionado. Evey night Fuzzy loves to drink puer tea. But if he is offered regular green tea, he won’t drink it. See our Fuzzy Purr Tea slideshow.

Pure Puer Tea helped make a little San Francisco tea history by participating in the 1st Annual San Francisco International Tea Festival. It was held on February 25th at the Ferry Building in San Francisco. The event sold out a couple of days before the show. It was a very exciting, busy and fun day. Larry and Yang Su met a lot of enthusiastic tea drinkers, and sampled and sold a lot of puer tea, and Piao I teapots and tea infuser bottles. On February 23rd, 2012 Pure Puer Tea and Tru Gourmet Organic Dim Sum served puer tea and dim sum at a San Francisco Botanical Garden fundraising event at the Botanical Garden in Golden Gate Park. The weather was perfect and everyone had a great time. We ate delicious dim sum and drank puer tea. The guests learned a lot about the history, health benefits and how to prepare puer tea. Our friend and customer Orest Monokandilos told us about this video regarding puer tea as an alternative investment to wine. You can click on the picture above or click Bloomberg Puer Tea Video to view it. The article mentions that puer tea is considered a healthy drink in that it is good for reducing fat and aiding digestion. What the video doesn’t mention is that puer tea can actually be very affordable, and much cheaper than teabags found in most stores. This is because one tablespoon of puer tea can make up to ten cups of tea. Also, puer tea improves with age, so it can be stored for many years, unlike other teas.

Another advantage of investing in puer tea is that the value of the US Dollar and many other currencies tend to decline against the value of the Chinese currency, so investing in puer tea is a hedge against the declining dollar and other currencies.
