This teapot is hand made by a 70-year-old father and his son. The father, who makes the container, is one of the top four most experienced Yunnan clay artists. His son creates the design and inscribes the poem. The pots are hand polished with a stone and contain no glaze.
The colorful layered pattern on this teapot is known as "Tei-pien." It is a traditional technique, which requires a lot of skill and time to apply clay of different colors to achieve a piece of this quality. The artists have to let the clay dry before they apply the next layer, so as to not mix the colors.
