Chinese people have been drinking hand-picked green puer tea for about two thousand years. For centuries it was a drink of the emperors. Today, many people around the world are discovering and enjoying natural green puer tea for its smooth, mellow, earthy taste, and because they believe it has many health benefits. In China, green puer is known as "sheng puer" or "raw puer." It is different from green tea because it is not baked when processed.
In general, green puer which has been aged less than five years has a slight bitter taste with a subtle sweet aftertaste. As the tea ages, it becomes smoother, sweeter, loses its bitterness, and the color changes from light yellow to a much darker amber color. It leaves a very smooth feeling on the lips. Green puer tea improves with age up to 65 years.
