TienJing is a well-known Yunnan teapot artist. His works reflect the simplicity and elegance of the Buddist culture. The calligraphy is created by another artist; a learned Buddist philosopher. Each piece is a result of this Buddist spirituality.
The colorful layered pattern on this teapot is known as "Tei-pien." It is a traditional technique, which requires a lot of skill and time to apply clay of different colors to achieve a piece of this quality. The artists have to let the clay dry before they apply the next layer, so as to not mix the colors.
